What I did after I finished my '78 GL
I picked up this very ugly '83 CB1100F in the fall of 2016 with the plan to resto-mod it like my blue one.
Within a short time I had it apart down to the bare frame and then tucked it away so that I could finish my son's 1100F. Parts accumulation began, and I shipped a 2012 CBR600RR swingarm to my machinist for modification and kitting. The bodywork was shipped to my painter with the expectation that I'd have it back long before I needed it. (I was right)
Along the way I powder coated hundreds of parts along with customer work. They were boxed up and put away. I focused on finishing my '78 GL and and last fall, it was done. Then the full-court press began on what I refer to as RMII. From that point on, I picked away at the many, many details, did several mock-ups, and then had the roller all done in March. A friend and I rebuilt the engine in January and ran it on a stand to make sure we didn't miss anything.
Approx. a month ago I finally finished up and am thrilled with how it came out.
I'm still making final adjustments and working out the last of the minor bugs and details, but so far, the first 150 miles have been awesome. And now my blue RM has company in the garage.

Sweet! The only problem I can see is deciding which one to ride!

Both are beautiful and appear to be the work of a master. Congrats on both bikes.

Re: What I did after I finished my '78 GL
Thanks Nate. Both bikes were bored out to 1123cc's. The blue bike has CrusinImage pistons and rings. The red bike has the Wiseco big bore kit. Both of them make lots of power but they have distinctly different feels.wingrider wrote:Looks awesome! Do I remember correctly that one of them had an overbore done to it?

The upgraded swingarm and 41mm VFR750F forks makes it a much better handling bike. It's quite noticeable.gltriker wrote:Nice!

It's also very visibly noticeable. I love the cleaner look of the F models without the twin shocks disturbing those lines. Excellent work. Now you're talkin...
