Sad.

Wonder if helmets would have helped.

back in 77 I was heading home on leave from Norfolk on my brand new 76 kz400, just prior to a MED deployment. came out of the Hampton tunnel and bam! a small bird of some sort hit me in the right side of the head. lucky I had a helmet on. it about took me off the bike. luckily I didn't go down. can't imagine the force involved in hitting a vulture. sad situation.

Had a friend of mine hit one with his GL1500, broke the headlight assembly & windshield. Dead bird and a lot of bird sh#t ended up in his lap. He didn't go down but he was hard put to explain why not.

Just had one of these up the road from me a couple weeks ago. In this case it was a wild turkey (no, not Wild Turkey). Rider on a Harley hit by a flying turkey, veered off the road and into an guard rail. Evidently lost his leg due to the impact, and passed away at the hospital. It not enough that we gotta worry about deer and Buicks, now birds.

a few years back I was dragging up the rear with a HOG group that liked to bunch together and beyond the limit. They came up on a whole flock of turkeys and half way through the whole flock went up and over them. Thankfully no impacts as there would have been multiple bikes down. The birds were all gone by the time boring me got to that spot in the road, but it was a sight to be seen!

On a related but not motorcycle note, last week a wild turkey few through a double-pane glass window at my company's HQ in the western suburbs of Boston. It flopped around the office and went through a second double pane window in an effort to get out. Broken glass and turkey blood everywhere. The office was on 5th floor; I didn't think turkeys flew that high. It didn't survive.
