It WAS a wonderful era. But I was focused on muscle bikes during that time.
CB750/CB900/ZL900/GS1000/VMX12 all kept me busy in the 70s and 80s

I remember their Nova V4 project. HD caught a great boomer ride in 83 up with their evo engine, blown head gaskets and all and I give them a lot of credit for bring the company back.

Re: My 79 KZ1300
They were huge. When I picked up my ZN1300 Voyager 6, I was astounded at the sheer size of the thing. It made my Valkyrie look small. Then I put it on a serious diet... it remains an ongoing project that should conclude this fall... given just a bit more time and motivation... and perhaps some cash.

Re: My 79 KZ1300
I can confirm that, with the Vetter/Tour package, the size of this bike is ludicrous. Mine came with the fairing, and even without the lowers the mass of the thing was astounding, in both width and height. The rear was probably not far off a standard fairing width of the time, but unlike a normal fairing, it didn't' taper at all as it moved forward. Very bizarre.
I did love the harsh angles of the Vetter trunk and saddlebags, though. Detachable (with carry handle) too. I'm almost sad I got rid of mine, but it wasn't the direction I wanted.
