My wife said later that night “I didn’t know you bought that red bike back, I thought we were going to get your smaller silver bike.” I’ve never owned a smaller silver bike. Now I know for sure that she has no idea what I do in the garage for hours, and what bikes are in there.
Bought a bike one time and told the seller I wasn't sure how to explain it to my wife. He said not worry, just paint it another color. I said that's not gonna' work....she can count. :orange

I bought my '78 in 2010. I needed to get another bike, and the Wing was the only thing on Craigslist that was in my budget (cheap!).

I have had quite a few problems with it, many setbacks, but I am getting things worked out, and this may be my forever bike. It does feel right for me, and I wish I could have bought it new. I know I would have kept for all these years it if I did.

We used to call them a "Hondapottamus.
I never heard that before, I think you just named my new to me ‘98 Aspencade 1500.

the 1500 really sparked the "hondapottamus" I think it also was called a wide wing-LOL

I, too, am a legacy. I was with my Dad when he bought his first wing - an 83 Interstate from the dealer the year I graduated HS. He reluctantly let me ride it a bit back then and all I could think was "Wow, this is fast and it stops on a dime!" Of course, I was riding 1970 Suzuki T500 at the time (mechanical drum brakes front and back). He moved on to a 1500 wing, eventually triked it as he got older. I got his 83 and immediately stripped the fairing off in his driveway - something I had wanted to do for years. It is the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. Enough power to have fun but not get you into trouble at warp speed. Big enough to not get blown around on the road but nimble enough in a parking lot. I'm also riding a 99 Valk and an 09 FJR. Both of which have their strengths but not that perfect blend.
