I want to replace the halogen driving lights on my 82 with LED ones. I've never used the halogen ones due to what I've read about the load on the charging system but I want to have "can you see me now" auxiliary lights on it.
I don't ride at night (to much chance of hitting Bambi around here) so I'm not worried about how well they light up whats in front of me.
I've been looking at them on amazon, led supplier sites and the prices are all over the place.
So..I thought I would ask you folks if you have them, what kind you have and whether you like them or not.
LED aux lights..

Re: LED aux lights..
If you want LEDs that project AT ALL, look for units that come complete- bulb and housing together. If you're trying to retrofit an LED bulb to an existing halogen housing, you're never going to get light that projects. The focal point of the LEDs and halogen bulbs are different enough that the reflecting properties of the housing are useless.
Now, if you're just using them to BE seen, you're pretty much okay with whatever is in your price range. LEDS are great for that, but they aren't great at throwing light yet.

Re: LED aux lights..
oops..should have mentioned that. I'm looking at buying the complete light..not just a bulb.
I almost pulled the trigger on 2 of these this morning and probably will. they have good reviews from riders and they are small like I want.

Lumens (brightness) isn't bad. Maybe a tad dimmer than an 35w H3 halogen bulb, but again, probably fine for BEING seen.
I've never used that particular light and most of my advice right now is just doing math with information on the internet, but it looks like a solid setup.

Re: LED aux lights..
tks. being seen is my objective. I know I've mistaken a motorcycle at dusk for a car due to it being in front of the car and the headlight on the bike matching the light on the car.Lucien Harpress wrote:Lumens (brightness) isn't bad. Re: LED aux lights..
I'm using this LED headlamp from Super Bright LEDs. It turns night into day. I don't see it listed in their current catalog listings so it may be discontinued. I seem to recall that it cost around $140 - not cheap. The LED lamp in this link is what they currently sell. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... -40w/2512/
