New project, Am I crazy

#1

Post by leggman »

It seems like all my life (I am 60) I have been looking for that one project to build. That one thing that just kind of leaps out at you when you see it and says "You can do this" .
I saw this on youtube a while back and although the creator will not sell plans I think I can come up with something very similar.
The only catch I can see is the fact that I will be using a 1000cc Goldwing motor and drivetrain which will mean I have to run a tire that will fit in the swingarm unless I widen the swingarm considerably and use a very custom wheel/tire package.
The following link is to the video.

Fun!!! Somewhere in the back of my head we have a build on here that required a much wider rear tire. I think it was accomplished with 2 driveshafts (middle supported with a bearing) and a custom swingarm.

One of my favorite bikes I have ever seen was a home build that I saw several years ago at AMA Vintage days. The owner was't around but from memory I believe it featured a Ford 4 cylinder mated to what someone said was a BMW transmission in a custom built frame. Styled as a cruiser. A true 1 of a kind machine that the owner/builder deserved to be very proud of. Fully functional with a healthy dose of mechanical skill and engineering. If you can build this and make it work the GL1000 drive line seems to me like a very solid choice. Go for it!

I like it... the 'Blue Dragon' build featured a modified swing arm using a custom driveshaft and CV joints, and a modified rear rim to allow using the stock rear drive...

Of course you are crazy!
But that's where the fun is.
Call up your local tubing supplier, dust off the welder,
Break out the bender and start a build thread.
You will surely be followed and encouraged by many, and I will be one of them.
