Yeah, it didn't even occur to me to look elsewhere. I was down at Western Honda with a laundry list. I just added that to the list.

...for $75. Sheesh. (Thanks Robin for the idea. I don't think they'd appreciate it if I backed out on that item after ordering it).

By the way, did I mention how handy it is to have them 15 minutes away?

I was wondering if you had to tilt the motor to remove carbs? Oh that’s right you cut the rubber boots.
I thought I read about making room by tilting motor somewhere. My fj1100 Mikuni s came off a few times,
I used to heat them up with heat gun to help. The FJ was so tight in there, plus the linkage and hoses,
I’m having a waking nightmare I better stop. Keep up the posting, thanks dave

Definitely needed to be tilted. You can see in the photos in posts 35 and 43 how it's pitched forward. (Note the positions of the forward upper mounting tabs for just how far. Heck, there's only one crossbolt holding the motor in. It's practically out.

(Just because I'm curious) So how much actually holds the engine into the frame, then? I'm guessing there's the rear crossbolt you have it angled off of, and some kind of mounting on the top of the engine to the top frame rail, but is there anything else? And how much actually holds it up by the neck? Just that one bolt?

There are two cross shafts on the rear of the motor. (Yellow arrows in the attached image). The upper is removed. The motor will rotate on the lower shaft when the front attachments are removed.

Up front, on each side, triangular mounting hanger brackets fit between the red engine arrow and the blue arrow frame bosses. The head also mounts directly to two rear hangers. (white arrows).

And about polishing this valve cover. Bottom line: It's a beast to polish. Heck, I've worked literally for a day cleaning it up and haven't even started polishing. It'll never be right if I do it.

I communicated with our very own Sunnbobb about polishing this monster valve cover. He confirmed what I was finding out the hard way. It's a beast to polish. But, he offered up an idea I hadn't thought of - vapor blasting. This is a process that, followed with a protectant leaves a nice finish - lots of luster, if not a fully polished look. As luck would have it, there's a fellow in Tucson who specializes in the process - and even better - is a CBX maniac. I'd run across him in my CBX internet ramblings, but this miserable valve cover made me remember his relatively nearby shop. I spoke with him this morning. I'm gonna drive down next week and he'll do the cover while I wait! Pretty cool guy.

Went down and visited Nils yesterday at Restocycle in Tucson.

This guy is the real deal - lifelong cycle enthusiast who left a successful high-tech job in Connecticut to follow his passion - ending up in Tucson. Heckuva nice guy. He and his partner do first rate restoration work - specializing in old Hondas and CBX's in particular. They even had a fairly rare NS400 being freshioned up (V3 two stroke!)

I highly recommend his vapor blasting process. He has a very attractive rate structure including return shipping. Typically a flat rate, you get it to him and he gets it back. Beautifully finished.

Got my cover back on this morning. I am pleased - although I got distracted and sidetracked on this cosmetic detail and need to get back to serious business. Having some trouble getting a bench synch ironed out. Better to get these babies close BEFORE they go back on the bike. Often (or so I'm told), if you do it right, you won't have to touch them after they're back on.

We'll see. I may soon go into hibernation except short tasks in the morning. Getting hot. And I'm a softie who hates sweating on his tools.
