What have I done!? CBX!
Actually, it would be more accurate to say "What am I about to do?"
I, like many of us, have lusted over the CBX since it hit the streets 40 years ago. Back then, I was young and didn't have very deep pockets. Couldn't afford one. Over the years, they have never been "cheap" to obtain. And I had my motorcycle eye elsewhere. In recent years, they've become really expensive. Especially for nice, unmolested ones.
So, tomorrow morning I head for Tucson with trailer in tow to look at a '79. It is a one-owner bike. But, it is definitely not "unmolested". Customized. Nothing horrible, but almost zero original paint left. Maybe the frame. Even the motor has been painted. Factory turn signals gone. Factory bar gone. Factory seat gone - but nice Corbin on there. Factory pipe gone. But, a decent Russ Collins (RC) pipe on it. Been sitting for 10 years.
Price I couldn't ignore. So, unless something scares the heck out of me when I see it, it'll be coming home on the trailer.
Sheesh. Scary. But, the good kind of scary...
Stay tuned.

You guys are missing the point. When is the last time you saw one? For every one guy who says he wouldn't want to have one, there are ten who would love to - and would pay good money to have it.

The last time I saw one was in my shop taking the engine apart.

Re: What have I done!? CBX!
Nice bike! May not be stock, but it’s still a CBX. There’s no mistaking that in-line six
Back in 1979, traded a Datsun 2000 for a new one. Wasn’t too long and the stock exhaust was replaced with a DG 6-1. That thing made music! Got pulled over for doing 72 in a 35 (young, stupid & lucky). Policeman just wanted to talk about the bike... let me go with just a warning

Re: What have I done!? CBX!
From the initial post, from a pure-stock perspective, that wasn't as bad as I was expecting. All the major parts to bring it back (airbox, chain guard, rear grab rail? Did they have those in 79?) don't seem to hard to get a hold of, I'd imagine.
That exhaust hurts my soul, but I'm not a fan of ANY "x-into-1" setups. Just personal preference.
A CBX is one of those bikes I would love to own eventually, but don't have nearly the money, or the mechanical know-how to stay on top of it. But a red '79 with a set of 6 into 6 pipes? I'd grab one in a heartbeat.
For now I'll just have to be happy with my KZ1300... But awesome find! Hope it works out well for you.

Re: What have I done!? CBX!
EDIT: On closer inspection, I can't tell if that exhaust is in fact a 6 into 1 setup. Regardless, it still kinda hurts my soul.

Re: What have I done!? CBX!
Looks like a good start! Hope that it isn’t to bad to bring her back up to running specs.
Like I said, not sure I personally would have wanted to own one. They are a unique bike, but they just didn’t trip my trigger. Perhaps after riding one that might change my mind.

6 into 2 DW exhaust system. It trips my trigger. But, then, I'm a child of the 70's. We did lots of things differently. On the road to Tucson as we speak...
Something will happen soon.
