As a painter,I like the flamejob, but understand originality as a britbike guy. Back in the Jurassic era,as a 19 yr old, I had a kz400 I cherried out. My buddy and I went to New England dragway to try the 1/4 mile,me on my bike, him in his big block Chevelle. Bikes all got in double file. When I was next to go,there was a CBX in front of me at the tree. 6 into one pipe. Let me tell ya...he cracked that throttle as the tree started flashing, and my eardrums popped like firing .44 mags without muffs. That was THE bike back then.

Thanks for the compliment, Dig. Coming from you, that says something.

Been following your build. Lotta good stuff there. Interestingly, I lived in the Merrimac Valley of Massachusetts for many years (Triassic period) and spent a fair amount of time up at Epping myself. Loved that place. Almost destroyed a Mustang up there when an axle u-bolt opened up and universal snapped.

My brother-in-law's garage would overheat in summer from the south facing metal over-head door. We went to Lowes and bought the Dow, blue 2" styrofoam board. We attached it with Liquid-nails adhesive caulk. Took about an hour and a six pack. He also painted over the brown on the outside of the door and made it white.

His shop now stays about 15 degrees cooler on the hot days.

Cool stuff. Making me antsy to get my big 6 on the road some more.

Throttle cable is set to show up this week. Looking forward to blowing out some cobwebs.

As far as downsides to keeping a clean carb rack in storage, my only (uninformed uneducated) concern would be o-rings drying out. Not sure how many CBX carbs have, but even without any fluids they should last a while.

Well, my CBX project has been delayed - but for good reasons:

1) Recently did head gaskets and timing belts on the '78 GL. Dealt with a broken valve cover bolt, yadda, yadda. All's well there. Needs just a little tweaking and will be ready for the season. (Video in post #7256 of the "What Did You Do to Your Wing Today" thread).

2) But, the biggest reason is that we're moving ONE LAST TIME. I lost a great shop in the big D with my first wife, but finally we're going to have some space again. And, most importantly, there will be ample space for project work. A/C, kitchenette, bath and shower! Heck, I could live out there if #2 kicks me out of the house! (The good news is, I should have met this one 30 years ago). Never too late!

So, this is my excuse for not diving back into the CBX. However, it'll be the first project on the table once settled. On the rack and the Mike Nixon rack is going on after all.

Can't wait. And I apologize in advance for appearing to brag, but if you guys can't relate to my eager anticipation, nobody can!

Well then, I managed to secure some shop time today after satisfying a fairly long "honey-do" list. Intrepid CBX thread watchers (all three of you) might recall that I'd concluded I was going to forgo installing the Mike Nixon prepared carburetor rack. That is no longer the case. Although I found after pulling the pods that the choke linkage had disengaged half the rack (causing the hard/impossible starting), I still decided to replace the rack I built.

So, I got after it this afternoon. I only had time to get everything prepped, i.e. engine tilted. But hey, it's a start. We are in the depths of the coldest snap in Phoenix in three years and I got the shop up to a balmy 60F. Currently, the heat pump is not working and I haven't investigated it yet. My trusty Mr. Buddy did an admirable job (under the front of the lift).

Hopefully, I'll get the rack pulled next weekend and, with luck, get everything buttoned up. We will see...

It was a superbike in 1979. Fastest in the world for a VERY short time. Now, it's still respectable, but even 600 class sportbikes will outrun it.

But, that's not the point. It's a CBX. They are not.

Very cool, as always. Nice to get a slightly different perspective of how wide that motor is. (And forward progress is always a plus)
