Popped my accident cherry today.

I'm gonna put this out there, even though it might not happen to you. Get on the bike and ride as soon as you're physically able. Circumstances kept me from riding for over a year after my last dust-up, and I found I had lost confidence in the bike, the tires, and, especially, my riding skills. I still sometimes have issues with sweeping left hand curves, particularly with oncoming traffic. I make it a point to get some significant practice time in every spring, as well, to get over that hump. Just saying...

I wanted to go for a ride yesterday after I stripped off the windshield. However..with age comes wisdom..
I am very sore on my left side. Hip, ribs, chest, shoulder.
I know my reflexes won't be up to par so until the soreness goes away I will be staying off the bike.
I don't have much seat time so this is all a learning curve.
I just wish I remembered it happening so I could critique what I did wrong..

I find therapy in parking lot practice. Unless the better half is on the bike probably 30-40% of my rides start in the local parking lot. Sometimes it is 2-3 minutes and sometimes when I am in the zone it is half an hour. It will get you back out in a safe place and you can concentrate on the base skills. You can never have too much slow speed skill.

It is unfortunate that you don't remember what happened exactly, so you could run it through your mind and decide what you should have done different. The fact that I remember my accident in great detail has helped me face the same situation again and make it a non-event. Maybe it will come back to you at some point.

Based on what my friend told me..and the marks in the gravel..I know what happened when I went down..it's the time just before that that I would like to remember. What was I doing when I went into the corner, where was the bike on the road,etc.
The trip we took is extremely twisty with a lot of elevation changes..which is why I was riding conservatively.
Of course..not remembering it isn't such a bad thing.

My bet is on the front brake. Big no-no in dirt or gravel (or wet grass...ask me how I know).

rofl... I almost rear ended a car once looking at a 65 Mustang...

thought I would pass on a lesson I learned from all of this.
well besides "don't dump your bike!
I carry a multitool with me all the time..in a leather pouch..on my left hip.
guess where the darkest part of my bruise is..and where it hurts the most...
so..note to self..remove multitool before riding..

Glad you are here to talk about it. Been in a few wrecks myself from low speed gravel skids to a high speed ditching accident. Your "amnesia" is definitely normal buy also indicative of trama from your brain sloshing around. My last wreck caused memory issues for about 6 months but I landed my head pretty hard and the concussion was pretty severe. Like others said, asap, get on a bike and ride. Take every lesson you can get from it and ride on!
