Routing of Clutch Cable from Lever on 1977

#1

Post by OldRider2 »

I'm replacing the clutch cable and I think I have where it figured out as it enters the frame down to the clutch. What I don't fully understand is where the cable goes out from the lever as it crosses the front of the fork area. I've seen the drawing in the Service Manual but does it go just behind the headlight? between where the gauges bolt on by the front of the stem? etc.

I've looked for a good picture showing how it should thread its way from the lever to the frame but can't find one. Anybody got a good picture(s) of his area?

Thanks

Thanks Whiskerfish! My clutch cable is routed there now but it sticks up to high and kind of blocks the Tach. The more I looked at the cable it seemed to tight in the hole beside the choke so I thought it must be routed wrong. The clutch is stiff so I thought I would put a new clutch cable on. I'm now going back to replace the front fender, Tach. and Speedo, along with the Clutch cable so I figured I better confirm everything.

Your name showed in a lot of the clutch cable postings so you probably get tired of people asking, then roll your eyes  and say "Not again!" Thanks again Master Chief I appreciate it!!

You might also look at how Puffy routed his clutch cable. His way made a lot of sense as it kept bends to a minimum.

Yea Puffy's way was nice. I think he had a couple of custom standoffs made for it though?
