Sounds like another marketing pitch...or more correctly, propaganda, not-so-cleverly disguised as a personal story....look at what site the articles on.
When you have to talk about "my feelings, my gut, and the memory of that 'old bike in front of the barber shop" its just a psychological vector to keep critical thinking at bay....because if you compare the two bikes, and the author admitted it, there is no comparison.
I'm not busting on the quality of H-D's, they are better than ever, but when your product is the same as its always been, and there's so many of them they're almost a dime-a-dozen, you HAVE to appeal to emotion first, and that's all that article is. Edward Bernays would be proud.

always interesting... I have had three Road kings, a 2000 (stolen), and 05 and a '17. On the surface they pretty much look the same, but The '17 is like the 2000 like our GL1200 is like my '78 GL1000.

I guess it all depends on what you are doing at the moment

I've gone Honda, Harley back to Honda with a brief Kawasaki interlude.

I've been gone from this forum for awhile after moving to Indiana and divesting myself of nearly all 4cyl wing stuff. I missed being bikeless and picked an older Concours. Nice enough bike, but I didn't really like the riding position. So enter a 2012 Ultra Classic Limited, really nice bike super comfortable bike to ride - very plush.
What I like about the HD Ultra -
- Feet forward riding position, most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. Heated grips :-D
- Paint & chrome, I thought very high quality.
- 40 mpg, better than I expected.
- Fuel injection - starts right up, no choke or petcock.
- Handling much better than I expected and really easy to maneuver in parking lots/garage.
What I didn't like -
- Working on the bike, just a mishmash of different fasteners, standard, metric, allen, torx, 12 pt sockets.
- Oil change - get a big nail to poke a hole in the filter to drain or get oil all over the most inaccessible places on the bike. Filling fluids through cover plates?
- Premium fuel
- Performance - twist the loud handle and wait... The Valk spoiled me for all eternity in the power department.
- Noise, sounds cool for 10 mins, then just annoying.
- $$ sitting in the garage for pleasure riding. I don't ride as much as I would like, mostly commuting on nice days.

I found an 86 GL1200i with 17k miles, so I'm back with a 4cyl Wing. This my first 1200 after multiple 1000/1100's and the one Valkyrie.

the 1200's are very nice, that one looks identical to ours when we brought it home. You will find the stock seat sucks. I would "ditto" on your observations on the 2012 ultra. I must admit the Milwaukee 8 on my '17 really rolls on the throttle well.... yeah, I put in ear plugs, but I am trying to preserve what I have, so I do it on all the bikes nowadays.

Nice to see you back

Wineberry is, without a doubt, the best looking color ever applied to a Goldwing - and that is a nice specimen.

Those Harley's are cool, low seat height, lots of power. Etc
Rodger, I just realized you have the new Harley motor. Everything I've read is good about the motor.
Noticeable power increase. That's never bad.

I really like my 84 wineberry but I sure wish it was in as nice shape as yours. 15 years in a roofless shed did not do it any favors. Faded and rusty but reliable and pleasant to drive everyday. Maybe someday I will find someone willing to part with all the tuperware that looks like yours.

Never got along with my '84 1200 Aspencade so I traded it in on a naked bike joined a naked Gold Wing group.

I feel better now.

I have to ask, what is a roofless shed? :8) Isn't that just walls? Did it once have a roof?

Just curious anim-cheers1

it is about a 20% increase in size over my '05, so a lot more roll on. I think 6 speeds make a difference as well. I do wish that 1st gear was a little lower, as I feel I need to rev it up to go (although I have started up in 2nd  ). I do notice more heat on my right leg as the engine is a bit wider. Less muffler heat as the rear pipe has a different routing. I also could use a shorter windsheild

I had it redone by Sargent MC seats. The redid the foam for the driver and moved the back ridge back about 1 inch. I think the seat height was up a little as well.

Interesting article. Two totally different bikes and two totally different rides. The Honda is an awesome handling rocket ship and definitely NOT a cruiser like the Harley is. There's no comparison. I own a 2010 Vulcan Nomad and compared to my CB1100F resto-mod, it's a brick on wheels. I only have it for taking my GF for rides. It's the only bike that's comfortable for two. But I've had just about enough of this 850+ pound mammoth that handles like crap. I intend to replace it with either an ST1300, a Concours, or an FJR1300. The GF has already been on a Concours and likes it just fine. No more cruisers after this...
