So after minimal troubleshooting, a new battery, and a splash of fresh gas, she runs!

Very cool. I've been a Volvo guy for a long time..my first was a 1979 244DL that I started driving when I turned 16 in 2007. Eventually I modified that car with a turbo, aftermarket EFI, and a Ford T5 transmission, among other things. It eventually carried me on a cross-country road trip.

I've owned 18 other Volvos, mostly the redblock variety, since then. Currently my daily is the '05 V70 T5 you see a blip of, that blue wagon is a factory turbo/intercooled 1985 245 (bit of a rarity) that I'm currently deciding whether I want to throw another 4 cylinder in (blown motor) or do the V8 build I've been kicking around in my mind for a few years.

Man, already getting frustrated with this BMW thing...any panel I needed for the GL was an ebay search away. Trying to find the panels I need for this machine is like pulling teeth.

I also need a part of the fuel cap that holds the seals on...NLA, and I can't seem to find a used cap for less than $100.

Yeah, rare bike you have there. I have the same issue with my little CB-1, and its a Honda. Parts in good shape just don't pop up all that often.

That's why you stay away from some bikes. They aren't always the deal they seem they might be. ;)

I found the fairings I needed from a gentleman in Canada. He wouldn't split up his set of 4, so now I guess I have spare left side panels that I can either keep for crash repair or sell, and probably be net-zero on the panel acquisition. The weak Canadian dollar worked in my favor.

I got the rear brakes working. They just needed some bleeding and fresh fluid. The front master rebuild kit should show up this afternoon, so with any luck, I'll get the front brakes straightened out and get a ride in this evening or tomorrow.

Got it running good enough to take around the block the other day. I'm not in love with it, but I also didn't get it above 30mph or so, so that might change.

Replacement panels were finally sourced from a gentleman in Canada and should be here this week or next. I pulled the exhaust off and sent it out for blasting so I can fix the rust hole and straighten out a dent in another pipe. Thinking about having it ceramic coated too. We'll see.

Took me the better part of an evening to get the ignition switch and tumbler straightened out...wound up having to play locksmith, but it works now.

Can confirm. Not saying the KZ1300 is a "bad bike" or "not worth the cost of entry", but parts DO seem a lot higher than other bikes.

Also, buying one $500 less than average price may or may not indicate a bent rod. Again, possibly speaking from experience.

Apart from that- I actually would love to own a BMW at some point. Simple fact is that I just can't afford to... (LOVE that air-cooled boxer...)

1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor

I've been intrigued about ceramic coated exhaust. From what I've seen, ceramic coat is nearly to the point it can replicate chrome pretty close, minus the cost. I've got a muffler that may need it very soon, and a guy that can do it, but I have yet to see the results in person. Still, may be the way to go to return an exhaust that's no longer available.

I had the headers on my Z28 ceramic coated. They looked like chrome initially but it doesn't last long. They still look great but they are not shiny.

The camera may be helping, but even the "year later" photo doesn't look bad. Probably we'll worth the cash, compared to the cost of chrome. If you can find someone to do it...
