Framed!

#1

Post by tomk1960 »

I've been restoring my son's '83 CB1100F for the past 6 months and am nearing the end of finishing all the parts. The frame was one of the last of the parts that I hadn't powder coated yet. After blasting during the week, I did final prep Friday night and Saturday morning I plugged all the threaded holes, masked off a few threads, and was ready to go. It got a good coat of zinc primer to prevent rust and then I shot a nice coat of high gloss black. This is the first frame I've done in my large oven and I'm thrilled with the results. I had it in the living room for new decal placement and triple tree installation and I have to say that it looks as nice as the furniture!

Just be careful you don't scratch it especially when you fit the engine!

I've done a few of these now with good success. To play it safe, all the frame tubes get several layers of painting tape. Also, I have a special bracket that bolts to my portable lift that makes positioning and alignment quite easy without contacting the frame.

Tom is the best powder coater on the planet. I'm shipping him a big pile of parts from a 68 triumph later next week. I have full trust he will knock it out of the park.
I found the end of the internet

Nate, the oven is 4'×4'x4' and has a rolling rack that pc'd parts are hung on, then rolled in to cure.

It's actually 2+ years old now and is used a lot. I often have both ovens running just so I can get the work done faster on Saturdays.

This is my oven. It is an old cafeteria warming oven that we converted to 220. It works extremely well.

tks. I'm going to give it a try..
I don't think a frame will fit in it but I have some case guards and other smaller parts I can experiment on. I've upgraded my blasting cabinet since I took this picture and have more room in it as well.
