Sweet, but dang it, they beat me to it! This bike has been bouncing around in my head for a couple of years, just haven't gotten around to building it. Now I'll have to build one better, lol!
Kind of sucks that they refer to it as an 1100 throughout the article when it is clearly a '78. Devil's in the details...

"He that is good with a hammer tends to think everything is a nail" - Abraham Maslow

"If you can't take the time to do it right the first time, how are you ever going to find the time to do it over?" -Unknown

Current Rides:
'Grumpy' - '81 Standard, now fully dressed.
'Layla' - '81 Standard w/dealer installed fairing and Hondaline bags.
'Scarlett' '76 'Survivor' nekkid as a j-bird!

Under Construction:
The 'Jalopy' '78-'79 Mash-up
'Quikie' '81 gl1100I back on the lift, project with the step-son!

In The Shed:
'81 gl1100I barn find aka "Josie, the farmer's daughter." (almost comatose build)
'77 gl1000, roller parts bike.
'82 gl1100I, 'Old Crusty' titled roller parts bike (free!)
'82 gl1100I, My first 'Wing, and an expensive lesson!

Yup, it's a '78 GL1000. But it looks slick. Shame they chopped a CBX tank to fit it... I mean, those aren't easy to come by either. And I love the look of no front fender (illegal in IL), but really, not a great idea for a tracker... especially considering that it will throw rocks and mud straight into the radiator.

You're right Warhead, the lack of front fender would not be very functional on the Goldwing tracker - if it was going to actually be used as a tracker. My opinion is that most of these bikes are simply a styling exercise, and will never see off-road conditions (probably will never venture out of the garage on a cloudy day). Sort of like the suburb-dwellers going to the grocery store and soccer games in their Hummers or Land Rovers.

From a styling point of view, the did a wonderful job IMHO.

Looks interesting but got to say I am not a fan of those hotwing glass seats. I have never sat on one so I do not have justification for my dislike but they look uncomfortable and cheap to me. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

+1 Almost too common, as well. Lots of nice fab work and attention to detail, then toss on a cheap seat to finish it off?

Just looked this bike over again. It would be great to see some more details, such as the frame mods and air filter/intake. That's one thing that gets me on these sites, tantalizing builds that need more details!
