That bug bites HARD, doesn't it? Congrats Gord, you're going to like that ride (just try and keep it down to misdemeanor speeds rather than felonious).RAT wrote:Well .... I've been thinking about an ST1100 for a long time .... keeping an eye on the local ads .... kijiji caught my eye yesterday with a 'too good to be true' ad for a 2001 ST100 with 25,000 mIles and two owners .... so went to have a look .... bout a 100 miles away .... found this

Every bit as good as it looks .... new tires and new battery this spring .... rode it 10-15 miles on nice back roads .... made an offer .... the nice man accepted my offer (instead of calling the cops) .... I better not tell you what I paid or YOU'LL call the cops ....

Re: St1100
I sold my ST1100 last summer to help pay for my Tenere. I miss riding the old ST, but I don't miss fighting with all that plastic for maintenance.
New ST1100 owners need to check the coolant overflow tank behind the right side cover. If it is overfull, you probably have a crack in the overflow hose.
The overflow hose makes a sharp bend at the thermostat housing and it cracks. Coolant will get pushed to the overflow tank, but the crack will not let coolant get pulled back into the system. You will need to cut an inch or two off of the overflow hose at the thermostat housing.
BTW......you have an interference motor..so change your belt

Here's photos of my new windshield from clearview shields, 3" taller and 4 wider than the stock windshield, a very nice fit, makes the ride a lot quieter, perfect for my future sound system.....

That's what aggravates me the most when doing routine maintenance on my 83 insterstate or my kids cbr600, I'd still like to have an ST1100 though.FutureBoy wrote: I miss riding the old ST, but I don't miss fighting with all that plastic for maintenance.

Re: St1100
I have an 81 Harley FLT, an 81 gl1100, and a 95 ST1100 sitting in the garage. For show and go, I always ride the GL, but for utility rides, groceries, long distance etc, the ST seems to always be the one. They are addictingly torque happy machines.
Don't get me wrong, I truly enjoy my wings and always will. But in my experience, the ST might be the best bike Honda ever made.

Re: St1100
Rat if your ST doesnt already have them, spring for a set of adjustable handlebars, you won't regret it.

Re: St1100
I ordered a pair of risers but they aren't here yet .... I loosened the clamp and rotated the bars up as high as is practical .... but I suspect your suggestion is the long term fix .... I'll start saving up ....
Wonderful pic BTW ....

Re: St1100
I got rid of all the plastic Honda and st1100 stickers on this bike, I've never been a fan of them on anything that I drive, so now the only identifiable logo on the bike is a new set of cb1000r 3D brushed aluminum Honda wings.....what do ya think
