Just a few stats from this year's rally:

4 riders are tied for being the oldest competitor, at 71 years old.
Dylan Spink is the youngest at 30.
The average age of competitor is 54.

There is some debate as to whether Dylan is the first competitor who is younger than his bike. It seems someone finished the rally on a '46 Indian. But, he was also born in '46.

I'm young enough not to have any right to complain of getting old, but old enough to understand that age does take its toll. My goal is to be as active as I possibly can, up to the point someone lowers me into the ground. I'd love to do a rally or two, and plan to in the future. I'm not sure that I'll ever reach the level of considering the IBR, but it's not out of the question yet. I have a Bun Burner planned (1500 miles in 36 hours), and only lack a couple of days of available time to do it. There are a couple of smaller rallies I'd love to take part in, and may be able to next year- this year is busy.

Sorry, for some reason i read Iron Butterfly. I thought maybe it was a reunion, minus the bassist of course. That bassist must have had pretty interesting life.

As of early this morning, Leg 2 results were posted. Dylan is in 13th place, which is pretty darn impressive (regardless of what anyone is riding!). His 40 year old Wing has carried him just over 5000 miles in 6 days of riding. That's awesome. I hope he continues to do well.

The rally has concluded. Dylan finished in 17th place, and rode 10,073 miles in 11 days. Very impressive. I bet he has some stories to tell.

Pretty good. I scanned the standings and noted a lot of gl1800's and st1300's in the Honda bikes. That st1300 is causing me to itch.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

wow! that is awesome!

most I've ever done on a day (several years ago) was 600-ish. that was Coquille, OR to Bellingham, WA with a few side trips. but I've been contemplating the Saddle Sore aspect (1,000 miles in under 24 hours) for a few years now.
here in about a month I'll hit 52 y/o and now I have a recent broken ankle to deal with. I have yet to see if it'll impact long distance riding.
