That makes sense. But I think an "Extensively rebuilt" 70's wing would perform as well. Your stator problems are not typical. If properly installed, OEM stators are very reliable. Before I converted to an alt. system, I had over 100,000 miles on a stock stator. And it was still working fine

Re: Old Photos of our Riding Past, Bikes and Road
This is the kind of story that has kept me buying Hondas, but other than my CT70, I have never actually had one live up to the reliability reputation. The CT70 was the most reliable bike that I ever had, even with all the abuse I put it through as a kid, teen, and 20 something!CYBORG wrote:That makes sense. I'm glad that I found the info here on the GM alternator, since a Poor Boy kit won't work on a GL1000. Plus, the hidden GM alternator keeps the bike looking better, as well as making it easy to work on.
I do like the feel of the Wing. It has a nice big bike feel that was really lacking on the Magna. At 6' with a 34-35 inseam, the Magna felt too small.
Now that I have the equipment, and some time, I really want to get the Wings (or at least the 78), going before spring.
(Sorry for hijacking the thread!)

Being happy ain't nothing but having something to look foward too..
No matter what I'm doing I'd rather be riding.

Had to dig deep into the archives to find these pics. First is a 66 305 scrambler bought in 1971. Second is a 73 CB500F bought new in late 1973.
