Suzuki RE5

#1

Post by Dirty Dave »

Am starting to resuscitate my buddies 75 rotary motorcycle that hasn't run since 1980. Can't believe how well Coca-Cola and aluminum foil works on old rusty chrome parts. Magic! We rode from Montreal to Vancouver and then down the left coast to L.A. in 77. He was on the Wankel, me on my CB 750F. Can't believe I finally got it from his pool shed to my garage.

Absolute best of luck to you. I hear parts are impossible to find and that carb is a nightmare. Always loved those bikes, though. Hoping you get that beast back on the road where it belongs!
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

DD, that sounds like a great project. Keep us all in the loop as you move along. A very unique bike, well worth saving IMHO.

Good Luck!

I'll keep that in mind Robin.

Just crumple up a wad of aluminum foil, dunk it in some coke and rub away until the chrome gleams.
Works really well.

Dave, Got a heads up for you on the RE5. Rotary Recycle, the best parts resource for these bikes, is closing as of Oct 1 2014. If you need spares, best get a hold of them quickly.

Thanks for the "heads up" twowings. Gotta buy some batteries for the camera and will learn how to post photos. Yah, I know, I'm not very hi-tech.

Well, after changing out fluids and cleaning the carb, she started up like it was 1975 again. And after 34 years....... Wow.
