some of my other project bikes....

Post by Grumpy_Chef »

I hope it's appropriate to this post here .. Since I'm new to the 'Wing world, I thought I'd share my other projects I've done in my garage ....

Here's what I started with - a used 1986 XLH Sportster ...
Image

And with the magic of a welder and grinder, finished with this bobber style bar hopper....

Then I traded this.... Yamaha Roadstar Midnight...

for this.... LOL .. a beat up 1975 XLCH Sportster

Yes, I know what you are saying, and I agree ... but I've always been wanting an old kick start ironhead...

and here's where I am with the Ironhead ....

Hope yous enjoyed ....

Looks great.

Did you buy one of those hardtail kits, or did you build that from scratch?

No, that was a kit ... so much easier and cheaper ... it came out great.. wound up selling that bike (the white one) but I fully plan on keeping the Ironhead and the 'Wing :) .... still have my fatboy for riding while I get the others going LOL

The Ironhead Sporties have been my favorite HD I grew up around my dads chopper have owned one myself The motor has more character the the evolution motors
If you never started a kick only Sporty key off kick it over then key on and kick
My dad's 71 XLCH can make you limp for a month
the 76 XLCH I had less compression but forget and you would remember for the next time,
the kick back can be painful

on a stock XL i always liked the handling on 78 and older the later years never felt right to me

Fantastic jobs your doing. I love it. In the movie Mask with Cher and Sam Elliot, the biker gang also kickstart their bikes. If they had electric starters it would not fit. Glad my wing has got electric start.

Mine has both :p

The look you get from the harley guys when you kick over your wing is absolutely priceless.

Nice ... my '83 Wing is electric only, but I put an electric leg on my '75 sporty... kicker is only for looking cool at the local bar when the bike is already warmed up LOL
