Everywhere I check has a different price schedule. My preference is a PC place that is used to doing bikes and hotrods. They understand the finish that you're looking for. When you tell them over the phone that you have triple trees and lowers they know what you're talking about.
Places that do lawn chairs and stuff are more production oriented.
Some places include media-blasting in their price because they want the parts cleaned up and don't trust amateurs to get it right. Those places sound more expensive, but they are doing more work and all you need to do is drop the parts off and then go pick them up.

Any shop that doesn't media blast should be avoided at all costs since the finish won't last. EVERYTHING that I powder coat gets blasted with aluminum oxide, then washed twice, blown dry, and outgassed. I want the parts I refinish to last for the life of the bike

A good PC shop should be able to do your fork legs for $50-$70. A nice chrome base and high gloss clear topcoat will make them look better than new.

Are you doing the whole front end, or just the lowers? Reason I ask is, the USPS has a flat rate box that can be ordered that is meant for board games and other long things...I know headers fit nicely, and would think a set of lowers would go good as well....all shipped for about $15.

Edit: Just saw you were in Canada...so that shipping may not work for you.

I have had tomk1960 do a few pieces for my 77 project, and can vouch for his work. He treats your stuff like it is going on his bike.

I have also had a person fairly local to me do some of the bigger things...and when you start to look it over, it just doesn't have the detailed work done to it that Tom's stuff does. For the most part, it is things that can't be seen, but it wouldn't have flown with Tom. I should point out that this lady coater does bikes, and everything else. She actually did my snowmobile tunnel, and did a decent job on it, which is why I went back.

I can never understand why any business would quote you a price and then later add on the cost for prep work. This isn't an "a la carte" type service since prep work is needed no matter what. $150 seems high to me but it may be that he isn't really into doing that type of work and quoted you high just to discourage your business. If he does do the work, make sure that he masks off all openings so that no media gets blasted into the bore of the leg. Look inside and you'll see how smoothly it's polished - it wants to stay that way.

Wish I could help you out, but I know that shipping from Canada to MA would be exhorbitant.

often the best deal is not the cheapest price. in fact it rarely is. if you want it done right, then you have to expect to pay what it takes. the end results will speak for themselves.
