Monday night (feels like Sunday) report. I am in the process of finishing up this bad-boy! I noticed that when I put the front forks on, one of the top washers found its way to the bottom of the light ear. I think I spent several hours in my mind convincing myself just to leave it as-is. Just could not do that, and actually putting it back the way it should be only took about 15 minutes.
Image

Next was the wiring. That meant that I needed to work on the light and speedo. The new speedo gasket was slightly smaller than the original. That meant the the clips did not hold it in tight. After some cipherin', I deducted that the thickness of a milk jug cap should do the trick. Shur nuff!
Image

Next it was the wiring. I definitely got better with the bullet clips and splicing.
Image
After I was finished, headlight low and high, tail light, stop light from hand and foot brake, speedo light, high beam indicator, neutral light and horn ALL work! Here is her last picture in the basement.
Image

Thanks to my neighbor friend, here is how she sits in her new home in the garage!
Image

Here is my to do list:

1. pick-up and install throttle throttle mechanism
2. oil chain (soak it in hot oil and petroleum jelly?)
3. install chain and gaurd
4. fill with oil, gas etc.
5. tighten exhaust header and check all bolts, nuts, etc.
6. Turn key and pray!
7. straighten foot pegs
Hope for the best, expect the worst and take what comes!

Is the chain new? On new chains I soak them in Kerosene to remove the grease. Let the chain hang then for as long as you can. I've left them for several day's before. Then install them. Then I use chain wax on them. Not lube or oil. Honda used to make a nice chain wax in a spray can. They still might. The wax doesn't fling off so things stay cleaner.

The chain is not new. It appears to be in great shape. I was just going by what the shop manual said to do. Never did a chain before!

I would still do what I said in the other post. Good chain wax will stay on and not fly off. Helps keep things clean longer. Thats what I use on the race bikes and I rarely have to do much cleaning on the rear wheel.

When you adjust the chain do it with some weight on the bike. Don't do it on the center stand or it will be too tight when you sit on it.

Put the chain on, best guess on the tension, then put it on its wheels and lean over the bike with your stomach on the seat so you can weight the bike while you check the chain tension.

Adjust accordingly and check again.

Eventually you'll be happy.

Or ..... hire a friend .....

How much would you charge for a short term friendship?
