side cover alternates

#1

Post by takehikes »

Easy to find right side covers but lefts are much tougher. Of course I need both for my 1975.
I was curious though, as I know little of the goldwing world, are there or were there ever alternatives? I assume the lefts are tough to come by as the battery is under there. No doubt opened much more often and possible had acid issues.
At any rate I'm curious about possible alternates available or those who built their own.
Thanks

A large enough 3D printer might be an option. I doubt the ABS suffered from acid fumes. More like hurried attachment and didn't get the latch set properly. BTW, damaged ones are easily repaired.

No, the left fails for folks that use the center stand. Their knee goes into the left side cover as they look for leverage to hoist it up and the next thing they hear is a crack. So yes, many have been damaged.

And on top of that people like me remove the right one because it is in the way of sidecar hardware so there's no wear & tear on it after that ;)

I have repaired a left cover with some success. If you have a damaged one, so not discard.

Or the left side gets damaged more due to drops or crashes. Right sides get damaged more in UK, NZ, Australia, Bermuda, etc. due to driving on the opposite side.

Now that's funny,,,,,,,,,,,,,

My background is choppers and customs since early 70's. I have a buddy wo is a world famous builder (pre-tv days) who can hammer out steel ones for me with Dzus fastners. I was just curious of options since the lefts are so rare.
