Hi,
Got a 1976 Goldwing - I've pulled the muffler and header off, painted them, and am ready to reassemble.
Looks like I will need new gaskets that go between the headers and muffler. Part number according to the fiche is 18391-292-300.
I can find some on ebay, and others in some specialty stores, but in general, there aren't a ton of them around. Anyone know if there's a newer part number for these, or a good source for them?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Exhaust gaskets
Don't know about availability or part #s (I've always found them plentiful from suppliers such as Partsnmore, Partzilla). But! Be CERTAIN that you have removed the previous (possibly several) gaskets squished in the head and blackened by exhaust carbon. I have pulled three per port out of a GL1000 (once found four in a port).

Re: Exhaust gaskets
Yeah I hear you, I had to pry the old ones out. But those aren't the gaskets I'm talking about - I mean the ones between the headers and the mufflers.

Re: Exhaust gaskets
I found a newer part number 18392-MK5-000 but they are few and far between. As you said, EBay and motorcycle restoration sites, they are not cheap. Found some for 78/79 on Parts N More,
Muffler Joint Gasket Honda GL1000 (1978-1979)
Muffler Joint Gasket 43mm x 48.5mm x 20mm OEM Ref # 18392-413-000 / 18392-MG7-750 Fits: Muffler. They list the size, don’t know if you could slice one and make it smaller if needed or not. Probably best just to pay for the right ones since they are available.

Re: Exhaust gaskets
These are pretty stiff. I suspect they would crumble if slotted and compressed much.digger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:24 pm I found a newer part number 18392-MK5-000 but they are few and far between. Re: Exhaust gaskets
In the CX community I've heard of some people using heavy aluminum foil salvaged from take out or frozen food containers for header to exhaust collector gaskets, folded into enough layers for the correct thickness and wrapped tightly around the pipe before insertion.

Re: Exhaust gaskets
Re: Pidjones, yeah, that would be a bad idea to slot them, might even have asbestos embedded in them. Just a quick thought that came to mind of how to get around the high price, my last comment, since they are available, just best to “pay the man” and be thankful you can still get them. It is what it is.
