85 GL1200 Limited

I have a newly purchased 85 Limited. Simple question...should the time zone and clock be on when the key is off? I find no reference in the shop manual or the users manual.

Is the key all the way turned off? Could it be in accessory Mode? I'm not familiar with that model enough to know the answer. Seems to me that all dash functions should be off with the key turned off.

Yeah, key is off and out. I know it doesn't eat much juice but I think it should have a dormant memory only state.

The time zone and clock is always on. Takes a while for this to drain the battery. Ride it every week and you should be fine. A battery tender is a good option when not using the bike for a while.

Thanks, guys. I kinda figured it was supposed to be that way and I am an electrician so I know it would take quite a while as long as that and the clock chip are the only functions on the computer that are on. By the way, this bike is in pristine condition, no broken plastic, paint is really nice, purrs like a kitten and roars like a lion. Hs 171,000 miles on it, was not ever restored, no evidence of motor swap. Paid only $1200, everyone was afraid of the mileage. Compression is at factory specs and now that I know the clock stays on everything works. I was worried that if it falls of the road and is totaled my insurance would give me a thousand bucks or so, being it is so old. The replacement value according to my agent is just under $10,000. I guess I got a bargain. Will post pic later, going to Colorado today, no time.

Ride safe, thanks again.
