ran great last week, not anymore and other ignition problems Gl1000

Hey Guys,
I've been running three tanks with seafoam last week after three carb washes, synchronizing, and she ran great all last week. Had a lot of fun with her pulling quickly through the rpm range.
Then next day, not so nice anymore. No more pull and hard to keep her idling at the stop light.

Checked the timing (Nixon book) and found 1& 2 retarded and 3&4 advanced by more than half an inch.
Did the split timing all afternoon today and things are much better.
Idles great without knock & chatter, but doesn't pull as hard as before and some vibrations mid range rpm.
Definitely ridable to commute to work.
So why the big changes all of a sudden?

The points look good. Original Honda. Cleaned everything and made sure the springs work as supposed.
Got a pretty good balance after rotating the crank 360 for each pair and re checking gaps.

The coils and plug caps checked out in ohms range, but I am running out of ignition wire.
I keep on snipping back the corroded plastic wire to get a good connection.
Friday the wire came out of the cap just by separating them from the plugs.
I realize I can't replace the wires only.

I don't know which coils are a good replacement or should I invest in a dyna system?

anim-cheers1 Thanks!

First thing. What is a carb wash?

I've had the original Dynatek components installed on my trike for 10ish years.
They have become very expensive in the last 2 years.

Here's some alternatives which cfairweather has written installation documents for.

I have heard of (never tried) using GL1500 coils on the GL1000 successfully.

GL1500 coils work well too and used ones (in sets of 3) can be had for a fraction of the price of Dyna coils. Here's a link to how I installed them on my '83 (at that time with '79 engine and Dyna S, now with the same Dyna and a 1100 engine). It isn't exactly like your bike but there are links to threads about installing them on 1000s
