Headlight wiring mess

#1

Post by nakedinterstate81 »

TGIF!
Broke my windshield and it's too hot anyway, so I decided to take off the fairing and use the LED Hl I had on my 1100 until I can find a proper Head light unit with bucket.
It has a 3prong and a red wire, there is no 3prong on the wire harness on the bike.

The wiring inside the fairing looks pretty scary. Everything is connected with black wire leading to a colored strand with bullet style connectors that connects to the matching strand that comes out of this black clump on the bike that I unraveled.
None of these colors are matching the colors in my book.
So how would I go about connecting the headlight first?

And than finding a set of matching turn signals that can attach to fork ears and wire these up?
It looks like the turn signals need a hollow 12 mm bolt to attach to the forks.

As far as mounting signals, Honda used 12mm threaded hollow mounts that the signals clamped go. If you don't care about original look, LED lights can be mounted to adapters to 12mm, or to the nuts that hold the headlights to the ears instead of using the reflectors. For wiring, orange and blue with white tracer are the marker light feeds and solid orange and blue no tracer are signal feed. Ground is through green wires connected to mounting ears by connectors under the shell mounting hardware. White and blue are headlight lo/hi feed, green ground (those three heavy wires should go to the headlight connector). Note that they are heavier gauge! You really should strip wrap back to the original wires to permit future troubleshooting.

I'd leave it disconnected as motorcycles are required to always have headlight on when running. Tape over it.

The bars are still crooked. The left side hangs lower and I've gotten used to it.
But now that the fairing is off it's easier to trace the handle bar wires so I can install one your bars.
I will tackle this when I get the new fork legs fitted that I'm rebuilding.

I've got the original carb on there and I'm surprised how hard she can pull.

Is this the stem I need for the turn signals?
I can't find 12 mm.

The mounting thread ID is 12.4 so it's M14.

I received 14mm stems from sabercycle and repro turnsignals from 4into1.
Everything fits but I can't figure out the wiring.
The turn signals have one wire. When I connect that to the orange/stripe wire it just stays on. No blinky action.
Is it supposed to be two wires?
Can I get it to work with only one wire?
