top tank lock
The lock on my top tank shelter has utterly disintegrated (years ago). It's not really a problem, if anything it is a security bonus as I'm the only one who knows how to jimmy my finger in there to open up the top. I just really hate how it looks with a hole in the top of the shroud. Has anyone made a mod for a push button tank open?

Re: top tank lock
Have not seen one "yet", so go man go. There is a guy that put a keyless switch , so you hold the brake and push to activate the bike. I do have a key that lives in my shelter lock that I cut short and mounted in a bottle cap. So it makes it like a latch more than a lock.

This is the answer you seek.

I used them to fix the side panels on my wife's shadow. A PO had snapped off one of the tabs.
Worked perfectly.

Re: top tank lock
they work very well, are easy to install and come in different diameters. I've seen a couple of people use them for hood "pins" on their race cars.

Re: top tank lock
IIRC, I used a cam lock in my GL1000's shelter lid. I can't remember why I changed it but after I mounted a cassette player in there it meant I could open it without turning the engine off so I could change the tape without pulling over....

Offered it up and it looks like it ought to work fine, the lock in my old one is great, it's the latching tongue itself that's worn out, keeps opening up on me.
Thanks 5speed!

Re: top tank lock
Finally got around to mounting the tank button, man was it a pain! Those locks are really finicky if the pin isn't *just right* when you close the lid. I'm unsure if the position of the pin will get in the way when filling the gas tank, but I'm sure thats something only time will tell. The overall look is nice tho and ive gotten it adjusted to where I can just press the button and the top tank will spring open (also adjusted the spring arm and lubed the whole spring/slide assembly). I need to get a nicer rubber washer/gasket for under the button to take up some of the space under the button and waterproof it, but thats a quick trip to the hardware store.

Re: top tank lock
I just received a set of 4 of these I ordered from eBay. Plan on using then on the shelter and side covers on the 76 project.
