1977 late production changes?

#1

Post by Bobh »

I have a "77 gl1000. But the seat and rear turn signals are the '78 style. Is this something Honda did or a change by a previous owner? I'm just curious because I worked for a Datsun dealer in the distant past and I know the Japanese manufacturers often did running changes instead of waiting for the new model year. And since the rear turn signals are mounted on the tail light bracket instead of the grab rail I need to find a 77-78 grab rail.

Don't know about the 77/78 split, but the 78/79 crossover had many emptying of parts bins.

The 78 stuff is one year only too, 79 went to flat stems and 76 had small stems. I was sold 78 front headlight ears as 76 and didn't spot the difference before they were on.

It won't change my plans for the bike either way. It's not a restoration but my daily ride. I do have a knack for buying stuff that should be easy and ends up being an oddball.

78, or some of it, had a unique rear fender and tail light setup.
I've been gathering parts for it to go on my 79 for awhile.

Moved my 77 to the 78 rear fender and taillights to allow bags to mount. Many have done the same.
