No center stand. Lifting recommendations?
My wing doesn’t have a center stand. I swear I have the worst luck buying bikes with a center stand. Last 3 haven’t had them. Anyway. I need to replace fork seals and would like to know a safe jacking point. I’m trying to rig a way to put a rear stand on the axle for support before jacking the front. I can see this going south fast.

Would a motorcycle jack work for you?

Re: No center stand. Lifting recommendations?
Maybe but I don’t have one. I’ll be sticking a jack under the front somewhere. Just wondering if the bottom of the engine cases can handle the pressure from the jack.
I was hoping to knock this out this morning as I’m working 12 hour days 7 days a week. I happened to wake up early and tried to tackle it. I couldn’t find a good way to get the rear bike stand located. The stand is just too wide.
I have a truck crane and was going to lift it with straps and the crane but batteries were dead in the truck. I threw the charger at it. Maybe tomorrow will fare better. I’ll probably oversleep though. Lol.
Definitely need to get my hands on a center stand. Why someone would remove that is beyond my comprehension. It’s kind of like removing three rungs off a ladder.

Yes the engine case will take the load so long as you are not abusive. Is there any way you can rig a couple cargo straps to the overhead for stability? Just a single point jack she will tip over real easy.

I've got one like that. I ran cargo straps through the rafters for stability and then jacked it up just until it was standing upright. I gave my straps one last adjustment and got to work. If you can't do the strap thing, I'd but a motorcycle jack for safety. I have front and rear bike stands but they don't work well with a Wing.

Don’t have one to put on, lol.
Yeh plan now is to lift it with the crane from three points. Two on the rear and one on the front. A shorter one on front to keep it higher.
Hopefully the truck batteries are fully charged by morning.

In my case the frame was modified to make room for a rather elaborate hydraulic clutch conversion (before I got it). The pivot clamps are gone and a large loop is in their place. Figor, it sounds like you have a solution. Good luck!

Btw. I’ll be needing new front brake lines and caliper rebuild kits. Any suggestions? I’m not too crazy about Amazon.
Damn front brake keeps seizing up. I’ve ran wire through holes in the reservoir and bled all new fluid through, but it will seize up overnight.
Wish I could get my hands on a complete GSXer front end.

I've always liked this thing, a wooden lever lift, just never needed it.
Skip to around 6 minute mark. The handle can be made removable. May need some spacers to get around the headers.

Re: No center stand. Lifting recommendations?
I don't know. At the risk alienating myself, I lean toward the custom side of things. Center stands are heavy. They are in the way of many aftermarket exhausts - not necessarily on the Goldwing - but many others. They are ugly as sin. In fact, I submit that the centerstand of the GL1000 is probably one of the most hideous ever affixed to a motorcycle.
I pulled the center stand for my GL1000 years ago and have never missed it. Not only that, it's lowered. As noted, roll it up on a block of wood to get the height you need to slide a motorcycle jack underneath it.
Whew. There you have it. One man's opinion.

I have to agree. I have a motorcycle lift that works on my 78. Which is lowered, and has 16 inch tires and wheels on it. I took it off because all it did was get in the way....was ugly....and pretty much useless on a lowered bike.desertrefugee wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 9:26 pmI don't know. Re: No center stand. Lifting recommendations?
For brake lines, I get braided hoses and chromed fittings from 4 into 1. Seems to be decent stuff at good prices. I've used them on 4 bikes so far over the past 6 years and they've held up and performed well.
