Front brake bracket retainer

#1

Post by sphen »

Part number 45112-mb9-871 https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/45112-MB9-871

I can't seem to find these in my parts bags from tear-down, and it doesnt look like they're available.

What are they, what do they do, and assuming i can't find them in the parts box in my shed, am I up poo-creek?

From what I can see on the parts diagram, that's the stainless steel clip that helps hold the brake pads in place and keeps them from binding. I can't say if you'd be okay not using them...

better still - since its technicaly part of the bracket, i found a handful of caliper brackets with the retainer still attached on ebay for about $9 each...!!

side note: the service manual brake chapter/diagram isn't very helpful - the "exploded" view isnt really that useful in reassembling all of this...grrrr

That's why you should take photos as you disassemble stuff... so you can see how to put it back together again.

I'm ALMOST sure that this part is the same. The model number got changed in 83 in anticipation of the 1200.
Apparently it fits 428 models, so I guess yours is in there somewhere.
