79 clutch lever loose?
So on my 79 project, I pulled the clutch lever cover to replace the cable and in addition to the return spring being MIA, I notice the lever itself is really loose, like in all directions. The term "floppy" comes to mind.
That said I did hook up the cable to a lever to test it and it felt pretty ok.
But is that floppy-ness normal?
I ordered a spring.

Re: 79 clutch lever loose?
The lever and the perch wear over time. Sometimes just a lever replacement will show substantial improvement. I have to over tighten some of mine to get the "Slop" out. I have seen some that over bore them and put a bushing it them if you have the time and desire rather than replace.

Also if you do shop for a replacement I believe that 78/79 are specific to those 2 years. The 75-77 are shorter and do not provide the same leverage.

Re: 79 clutch lever loose?
To be clear, I'm talking about #4 here:

It just, wiggles all over by hand.
The clutch seems to work, felt ok in a quick test with a new cable.
The lock nut isn't loose, I haven't adjusted it yet as the cable isn't routed
(and the front end is off lol)

Re: 79 clutch lever loose?
Do I need to pull the cover off and inspect or is that pretty normal?
It seems to function once the cable is attached.

Re: 79 clutch lever loose?
I would not dig into it deeper unless there were other issues

Re: 79 clutch lever loose?
I was kinda curious about this so I went and checked a spare motor I have sittin on a cart.
the nut is tight but the whole arm/lever does wiggle. I'd say normal.
took me awhile to get it adjusted right... there is a procedure. I don't remember exactly how I was told to do it but faking it the first time - no worky.
