Rear brake rebuild

#1

Post by bagger13 »

Well I finished the front brake rebuild on my 78 now on to the rear. I've ordered caliper rebuild kit and master cylinder rebuild kit still need to find stainless braided brake line. While I have the rear wheel off anything else I should do? I'm planning on putting on a new tire and lubing the final drive while the wheel is off. Any other suggestions?

IIRC, the rear caliper is 'split' on the '78, and there's an o-ring between the two halves that is not included in rebuild kits. You can find the correct o-ring on Randakk's website. Personally, I always change out the wheel bearings on a new 2 me bike, as well.

Yes, it is a seal, not an o-ring. No telling why it isn't included, but why isn't reservoir o-ring in master cylinder kits, why aren't fuel port U-rings included in carb kits (instead of bad jets)?
