Hi guys,
Any tips to installing and aligning the front wheel on a gl1000?
Ive torqued the axle nut, then install the entire wheel assembly in the forks but the right disc seems too close to the outer caliper mounting bracket. I can get the 0.7mm feeler gauge inbetween on the left caliper beacket easily, but the minute I tighten the right axle holder nuts the gap at the right disc to caliper bracket gets very narrow.
I managed to get it to clear, but the gap is marginal, maybe 0.4-5mm at best. I believe it should be 0.7mm everywhere.
Now I imagine the powdercoating on the fork legs may cause the caliper mounting bracket to sit a fraction more to the left than usual, but am I missing any trick or something obvious?

Re: Front wheel installation issue
Per the service manual, tighten the first leg, then pull out the other leg to achieve the proper spacing at the caliper and tighten...

Re: Front wheel installation issue
Your recognition of dimensional build-up, from powdercoating a machined mounting surface for the caliper bracket, seems reasonable to me.

I've always wondered what happens if you don't use the gap guage?GT-Ron wrote:Hi guys,

Re: Front wheel installation issue
Thanks guys. I sanded back the powdercoating at all the mating surfaces between the caliper holder brackets and the fok legs. And also the outside of the fork leg where the axle nut sits against. This seemed to clear up my issue.
I have at least 0.75mm+ clearance everywhere now. Hopefully this helps someone else at some stage.
