Single shock I'm guessing. Yes, that has been done. Do some searches.
Single sided maybe? None that I know of off hand.

Re: 4 cyl GL with s.s.swingarm
Few did a 1800 single side onto a 1500 custom with a lot of effort, but not seen one on a 1000, 1100 or 1200. Seems like major frame work is required due to the load shift from distributed to single side.

IIRC, Winston's Bonneville Wing used an 1800 swing arm, or at least he was investigating it...

The Bonneville bike does have a single side from a 1800, also a custom back half frame to support it.

Don’t think this got finished. Not your average bear.

Re: 4 cyl GL with s.s.swingarm
The gl1800 swingarm is much wider at the pivot points than the gl1000. See pic below.
However, it would allow you to run a 17” wheel from a vfr1200 giving you modern tire options. Matched with the vfr 17” front setup off course.
I dont wanna butcher my gl1000 frame so I’m doing the gl1800 swingarm on a kawasaki gt750 shaft. Its a lot of frame modification.
