1000 starter in a 1200?

#1

Post by 70sbudget »

Most likely swapping in a 85 1200 into my 1000 frame. 1200 does not have a starter and my 1000 starter works perfectly. I see conflicting info out there about yes and no it won’t work. Has anyone done it and what modification was necessary?

Joedrum did some mixing of parts and get different starters to work. I don’t recall which. It may have been an 83 to an 84 which did share common parts.

Another option is to sell the 1000 and get the right one. Be advised the 84 was different than 85-87. There a number of ebayers who list 84-87 as one fits all.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
