Thanks Robin, good to have a second opinion moving forward. It'll take a while for the parts to arrive and reassembly to happen, but I'll report back when things are complete!
Thanks again for all the help everybody, at least I'm learning a lot and enjoying my time in the shop, haha.

Re: Bike oil light came on - shut down
Just went for my first ride after the whole damaged camshaft incident. Used an extra head and carrier I had lying around with the same camshaft. A local engine shop polished my camshaft up to remove the roughness before installation for free which was great. Had to get pretty deep in there but it was a great chance to replace some leaking valve cover gaskets, grommets, camshaft seals, ignition gasket, etc. Also put that new starter motor on, new belts, rebuilt the timing pulleys with NAPA ones, gas tank sending unit seal, etc. Sure am glad to have it back on the road!
Also a good lesson, overall. NEVER touch the cam carrier bolts before removing the timing belt haha. Also, I used that Loctite form-a-thread stuff on a few stripped threads in a pinch, seems to work great for low-torque applications!
Still needs a new headlight (lo-beam is really dim) and could probably use a new clutch cable.
