Polishing gl1000 carb tops

#1

Post by Jonesz »

Did a search but can't find info on polishing the gl1000 carb tops. I have done my gl1100 carb tops but am a little reluctant to do the ones on my 1000 as I usually generate some heat while polishing and do not want to screw up the inserts. Anyone here who has done their 1000 and did you do anything to protect the cap inserts? Thanx for any info.

Got to figure they get up to engine temp while running. so unless you are getting them too hot to hold in your hand I would not concern myself.

I would be careful not to have the buffing wheel rub the plastic, or it will discolor

Thanks all. Will give them a buffing, really didn't want to do all the other goodies and leave these dull looking. Will take precautions around the inserts.

I polished the carb tops on my 1976 set up and used a Testors ivory model paint which I flowed onto the buttons afterwards with a quality fine hair brush. They never got too hot to cause any issues with the tops, just be careful when buffing around that area where the buttons are located.

Flyin900 you did a nice job on that carb rack. I will keep your suggestion in mind, the caps look gr8.
