Replacing the stator in my trikes engine.

#1

Post by gltriker »

Although I had a CD of the GL1000 Honda Service Manual and a Haynes GL 1000-1100 service manual too, I can't locate them after my wife did some organizing last summer while I was healing elsewhere with my broken leg!
Therefore, I don't have a reference source for the rear engine cover's cap screw torque. Maybe 100 in/lbs.?

Also, is there a rear cover capscrews' torquing sequence illustration in any of those publications?
If so, I would be grateful if one of my fellow NGW Club mates would post the illustration here in.

Thanks! tumb2

Standard 6mm torque spec is 90-108 in-lbs. in most manuals. For a cover I've never seen a sequence but you could do a criss cross pattern or star like Rat suggested. I just make sure the cover is pushed down good, snug the bolts up, then torque to 108.

Cliff,

If you need a copy of the FSM for the GL1000 I have one that I can send you in a PDF via Google Drive. The specs as quoted are good and just in a star sequence as suggested. I picked up a nifty in-lb. little torque wrench from your equivalent of Harbour Freight on sale for $20.00. Great addition to the tool box for the small torque specs bolts/nuts.
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.
