Running rough.

#1

Post by Gowing »

Just yesterday my 75 started missing a bit. Starts to shudder like gas starvation. Pulled plug wires to find
Bad cylinder. Shifter side front. Not coil cause only one? When I get to 4 grand on freeway it’s fine. Kinda comes and goes. Really notice on takeoff. Never done this before. No fun to ride a wing using 3 cylinders on a beautiful sunny Easter. Fouled up Plug?

yeah, wondering about flooding. When you start it, try turning off the petcock, if it is flooding (stuck float or valve) it will improve and run normal (until out of gas, that is)

Well it wasnt the front coil. The right front plug started going dead while the left came back.
So I thought cracked coil. Nope, I’m gonna put on my rebuild set of carbs on. was dreading it.
My old wings carbs have been so good for so long. The Guy who had it for two years and rode it
200 miles messed up the carbs. I told him to ride the bike every couple weeks at least. He didn’t.

Just finished doing a poor mans carb clean. Or lazy mans. Dumped carb bowls, measured gas that came out.
Put fresh gas with Techron in carbs to sit 24 hours. Then see what happens. Gas that was in bowls
Had tiny specs of dirt in it. The new filter doesn’t catch everything obviously. Hoping for a good outcome.

Filled tank, put some Techron in tank and drove for 40 miles on freeway. Runs like before,
No missing so far. Hope it stays fixed. The overnight 60/40 techron and gas in carb bowls and then the long ride did something.

My 82 was doing the same today. I've not had it out at all this spring. Started right up ran kinda sluggishly and I thought it was due for another carb clean up but thought I,d pull the plugs and found that the left bank was not functioning. Trip to the store ,new plugs, new bike. I guess that left bank was just fouled because it started up and ran better. Hit the interstate for a bit and got some fuel circulating and it's fine now. All the hesitation is gone now.
