I thought I would post an update to this thread. Upon closer inspection, my muffler was not as pristine as I thought. Evidently the input pipes had rusted before and someone cut them off and welded new ends on it. The ends they welded on were really well done but they were not the correct size. I took it to a local muffler shop and they cut them off again and welded on the correct size ends. Everything now fits properly with the gaskets. I put it on this morning and there are no leaks. So, I guess I will move on to the next part of the project. I truly appreciate all the advice and help from everyone. Benny

By the way, I am having the heat shields rechromed. Can't wait to get them back.

I have had a project where I needed to weld a piece at the ends of the headers

The grip end of my Louisville Slugger seems the perfect size to expand my Jardine mufflers to fit the 78/9 stock headers.
Just tapped it in and levered it around a bit.

Just sayin'

Hmmmm. No response to my Louisville Slugger muffler tool suggestion.

Just so y'all know, it worked like a charm. Provided space enough to use external exhaust pipe wrap as gasket
material around the header.
