I'm making this up........ but how about squirting with WD40 (displaces moisture on steel), wait a while and store in an appropriate sized ziplock with a desiccant pack inside. Maybe re-energize the the desiccant periodically.

You guys overthink....
Put the part in a ziploc freezer bag. They make them in every size up to 15 gallons. Do not cover the part in paste, spray, powder or anything else. Put 2 cups of rice in the bag and seal it. I've been doing this for 20 years without issue or rust forming. Got the idea from restaurants that put rice in their salt and sugar shakers.
