Led headlight
Happy New year!
I am looking to see if anyone is running either a LED bulb conversion kit or a complete 7” replacement light assembly in the original 75 GL1000 headlight bucket.
I am not sure what will fit as it looks like their is a heat sink or fan assembly on the back of the bulb conversion kits; or even which bulb kits are any good?

That is exactly the problem. I did put one in my dresser, it had plenty of room in the fairing to flay out the heat sink. Have not sourced one yet for a nekid bucket

Re: Led headlight
Over past few days, I have been looking at H4 LED's.
I was on Goldwing docs & found a bulb supplied by Electrical connection. I called them today to get the dimensions of the bulb. After doing so, one of my co workers came a long with a H4 LED bulb, the dimensions were within a 1/16" of an inch.
https://electricalconnection.com/index. ... t-bulb-h4/
Tonight I removed the headlight installed the bulb put it back together including a correct size
block of wood, for the driver & it all fits!
Here is some pics of the sample bulb & a pic of the lights.
Sorry i could not get the pictures turned.
I have also added these driving lights I am going to order this kit from Electrical connection.

Re: Led headlight
If you look up Propav8r's build thread, he used a LED sealed beam headlight that fits nicely in a naked bucket, and without the need of cooling fans, etc. It has a nice big heatsink that is the backside of the sealed beam. I used the same headlight on my last build. Was very pleased with that light. It is a little unconventional looking, so it may or may not work for you.

Re: Led headlight
Well, I received the bulb from Electrical Connection.
After some moving around & organizing the wiring I have it mounted. Now to wait till spring to pull the bike out & correctly adjust the headlight & new LED fog lights

Re: Led headlight
It fits in the headlight it self fine, it has enough depth in the bucket when all together.
It’s making room for the driver & wiring that’s makes you twist your tongue around.

Re: Led headlight
LED bulbs can create problems with the reserve light unit, and it may have to be bypassed.

Bypassing the RLU is my normal procedure. They themselves can cause issues.Liam wrote:LED bulbs can create problems with the reserve light unit, and it may have to be bypassed.

Re: Led headlight
What is the purpose of the RLU? How do you bypass the RLU & what is the reason for this?
The new LED has a lower wattage & amp draw & a driver unit.
I am curious to understand.

Re: Led headlight
One side effect to running a lower wattage (but equally brighter) bulb is that your R/R (regulator/rectifier) will now have to waste the power created by the stator by turning into heat. So be aware that your R/R might run hotter and could fail prematurely, Especially if you decide to change out all your bulbs to LED.
For several years, I ran a HID bulb (at the time LED was still not as available as now) with about half the wattage of the halogen also have LED fog light but would only turn them on at night and LED taillight.
At some point my charging system failed and the connection to my stator looked like this. I was lucky my stator or wiring didn't catch on fire. And I was riding during really hot summer days in Los Angeles. I was wondering if any one here have had issues with their charging system after changing out to LED.
After doing some research on I upgraded the R/R to a more modern Shindengen FH020AA which handle heat dissipation way better and I run the fog light on all the time (which total wattage with the headlight is about the same as the halogen bulb. So far it been great.
