Re: Windshields for a Guy Who Hates Windshields?
I found on long trips all that was needed was to keep wind pressure off the chest so as to not have to pull on the bars and tire out my arms. The detachable Memphis Shades models, something like the Hellcat are fun because I like riding at my destination with a naked bike. Did a San Antonio/Montreal round trip that was pleasant with the MS shield.
Hated my 84 Aspencade in the heat while wearing leathers. Should have swapped out the windshield for a vented one.

Re: Windshields for a Guy Who Hates Windshields?
If you get a windshield that has the curved tip on the top edge of it, the air is directed up over you head. The windshield that I put on my fairing has the curve, even though the top edge is below my eye level, no air hits my head.scootsx2 wrote:I use a PlexiFairing on my GL1000-based sidecar outfit. I hate the look of windshields as well, but this can be removed quickly if desired.
The PlexiFairing 3 is a great shield and really doesn't detract from the looks of the bike much at all. ***

Re: Windshields for a Guy Who Hates Windshields?
Late to the game, but I would highly recommend the Plexifairing 3. I've had one for years, and it has served well. As noted, it takes a bit of fiddling to get it set up just right for your own needs. Once you have it positioned how you like it, removal and installation is quick and easy, and the fit is consistent. I cut mine down a bit, as I have with most windshields I have used. With the PF3, you get some hand and knee protection, as well as taking the pressure off your chest, which makes longer and colder rides easier.
If you mean 500+ mile days by "decently long freeway work", you will probably really like the PF3. If you mean a 200-mile day trip, something like the Viper about should work fine.

I use this one on my 83. Takes less than 5 minutes to detach.

Re: Windshields for a Guy Who Hates Windshields?
Thanks. The Slipstreamer seems to have gotten more than a couple mentions, and the price is right. Should probably wait until the next paycheck, but that's definitely going on the short list.

Re: Windshields for a Guy Who Hates Windshields?
One of the great things about both the Slip Streamer and the National Cycle fairings is that they have multiple fairings that use the same mounting hardware. If you want, you can switch easily between larger, smaller, on no fairings.
The SS's are a bit less expensive and have at least 3 compatible models: Spitfire, Original, and Enterprise II.
NC has at least 4 compatible models: Street Shield EX, Plexistar 2, Plexifairing GT, and Plexifairing 3.
Obviously, the fairings are not interchangeable between the two brands.
There are lots of good options out there, but I really like the quick-attach / quick-detach models from both of these companies.

I use a National Cycle F-16 fairing. Just enough to knock the wind down a bit but not obtrusive:

I hadn’t seen that F-16 before. Looks like just the right size.

Beautiful bike Warhead_71 haven't seen one of those fairings either, really like the look, bigger and more effective than a flyscreen but very cool. Will keep it in mind.warhead_71 wrote:I use a National Cycle F-16 fairing. Just enough to knock the wind down a bit but not obtrusive:

Believe it or not... the flyscreen from National makes a big difference without ruining the lines of the bile.
This small screen made riding 10 hour days soooo much easier!

Re: Windshields for a Guy Who Hates Windshields?
I actually found a Dart Flyscreen on eBay for a good percentage less than normal price I ended up pulling the trigger on. Enough that its a good quality screen, but not so much I'll feel bad if it doesn't work out.
I'll need to fab some brackets for it, but that will be a Spring project. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted.
