I also have the elusive & somewhat sought after 17mm hex key wrench which I believe is needed for removing the swing arm bolt on 1000s.

and hopefully over the holiday break I'll be pulling apart a couple of 1000 engine cases. I'll see if I can remove a sight glass & post pics... or offer one up if anyone wants to goto that kinda trouble to replace it.

I know it's not quite the same, Gowing, but I'll try to remember to photo document the, uh, process.

Did you heat the engine case up to help release the glass? i tried using picks and a small screw driver w/o success. did not want to push from the outside in on the glass unless that is the way to get the glass out. any suggestions?
i was finally able to get the gear pin out. what a bitch that was.
The last piece before i scrap the engine cover is the oil site glass.

Well, could not find an answer on how to remove the oil site glass. I pushed it out from the outside in. it popped out but broke the glass. should have either pushed on the center screw or better yet, used a slid hammer and hooked it up on the inside . i could have run wire through the 4 openings on the back metal cover and used the slide hammer. oh well live and learn .
