Phone call help (help before I give up)

#1

Post by bassrad »

Hello all,

We (my mechanic and I) are struggling to get my 1977 gl running again.

The carbs have been professionally cleaned and I have no reason to doubt in that job.

We are experiencing popping on idle and deceleration and I would loose my hair if I had any left. it driving me crazy.

Air cut of valve-checked
Air leaks-checked
New cables and new plugs
Timing and coils-checked
New belts

I remember reading that somebody is offering phone help (Skype or similar) to diagnose problems and direct us in the right direction. Does anybody know who was the contact? I just remember that it was somebody trusty worthy.

The bike run great for a last few years, but started acting a bit and I assumed it is carbs.

Please help.

Best.

Are you still using a points ignition? If so then bad condensors maybe? Just something too consider.

sounds like something is amiss with the carbs. Hopefully one of our carb guru's will stop by.

I have electronic ignition.

We found possible air leak, hopefully it is that. Sometime I think I will just sell it and buy new, but than again it is so sweet bike once it runs nicely. I will post the results once resolved, if ever.

Yea air leaks for sure and also check that as you close each mix screw that the corresponding jug is in fact dropping off line. That is the best sure fire way to check the idle circuits. If the intake runners were removed then take the engine up to full temp before tightening the down the clamps. Makes the rubber more supple and will seal much better.
