Using sealant under cam holders per FSM?

I am working away on this refresh for the 1981 GL1100 and today I did the in situ valve stem seal replacements on each head. Looking at the FSM description of reassembly there is a paragraph where it notes to use a sealant on the cam holder surfaces when doing reassembly.
I have never done this before on other Goldwings, yet I may have missed it in the FSM, or on the GL1000 it isn't noted as a procedure. So do others use a sealant when putting these parts back together, or just reassemble them dry as they came off the head without any sealant present originally?
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

I've rebuilt several sets of heads and not once did I put any sealant there. Never any issues.

Thanks Robin,

I have done a few too and never have I used it either. I checked both the GL1000 and GL1100 FSM and both cover it in a small paragraph in the reassembly section. I know oil flow comes up through some holes in the cam holder and Honda is possibly covering any oil pressure loss issues into the area after the holders are removed and reassembled.

Yeah, maybe if the surface got scratched up or something it might be a good idea. You couldn't plane down the surface to take said scratches out so some sealer might be needed then. But I bet most times they were taken apart they didn't have anything put on them.

In that case if I did use anything it would be Permatex aviation sealant. About the same as gascacinch.

"In the above picture you will notice a red ring around one of the bolt holes This orifice is the pressure feed hole for the oil to the rockers, shafts and cams. The oilways also run round all the carrier bolts.

We don't want to loose any pressure to these so apply a smear of sealer (only a smear or you run the risk of blocking up one or more of the small oil holes in the shafts. It only takes a microscopic amount of sealer to seal between two machined surfaces) on the carrier pedestals and also around the outer diameter of the new ( they are, of course, new, aren't they?) cam oil seal(s) before bolting the the cam carrier down."

I didn't tell anyone "not" to use it. I stated that I have never used any and have never had an issue.
