GL1000 - pre bench - carb sync//2&4 not closing//

#1

Post by kenai »

Hi All - replaced carb fuel seals/ carb air seals and phenen seals. am pre- setting sync on 1& 3 with only one of the pluck holes showing - problem is the 2&4 side butterflies will not close far enough. sync adjusters are all clean and working fine but do not let the butterflies close far enough. does the shaft nut and spring that is between the 2 carbs allow for any adjustment?? thxs kenai

The sync screws have two washers which go on either side of arm from the adjacent carb. i.e. order of the sync screw assembly is the sync screw bulbus end, washer, adjacent carb sync arm, washer, spring.

If you had the throttle plates out, they may not be seated in the throttle arm slot properly. If they are just slightly off the throttle plate won't close all the way.

adjusters are assembled correctly; throttle plates close but when the arm (on side) is connected (one the idle screw activates and throttle cable) the plates are held off from closing completely

Is the arm bent? I've seen a similar issue when one arm was bent slightly.

Check your linkage arm that connects the 1-3 bank to the 2-4 bank and be sure it isn't bent or catching on anything. If it is installed incorrectly it can catch on the choke spring assembly.

wish the arm was bent since it is too short; also it is not catching on anything; basically the 2/4 side is opening up faster than 1/3 side. carb 3 adjusts with idle screw; sync screw matches up carb 1 gap/ this sets the baseline for 4; here I could use a longer arm OR a longer sync screw/// has anyone replaced the sync screw with a longer version that would allow the butterflies to move towards close???

Explain too short. If everything is "right" it should not be short. I had one that was bent enough that you could not see it.

I also had a set that had one throttle plate bent. Look "everything" over very well.

Using a longer sync isn't fixing the issue. Just a band-aid. Turns you in to "one of those previous owners". ;)

Put a straight edge on the arm and it was bent; so I'll look thru the old carbs for another; was tempted thou to become a PO while also a current one.
