could be something silly. In my case it was heat related. Both modules test good when the bike ws cold. Ran good till everything warmed up. Then one module would fail. System was several years old, ..but still. Let it cool off,...all was good. Several miles later would fail again,...until it cooled off. Always tested good in the shop,...failed on the road.
replacing the module solved the problem. A year or so later installed a C5, and never went back. Easier to tune, and more tuning options. MUCH better then a dyna...…..in my opinion

I had a similar failure scenario with the "brand-x" ignition that was on my bike when I bought it 9 years ago. It finally failed hard, fortunately close to home, so it was easy to diagnose. Replaced it with a Dyna.

Have just had to replace the Dyna S system on my 76.
New 2015, started to cut in and out while riding.
I did make an inquiry through the Dyna Tech website but got no reply.
I have used Dyna S on the 3 wings in the collection and can only recall one other failure years ago.
Just wish there was some way to diagnose which p/u was the culprit.

Utilize this document, Sandy. ;)

Had similar issue earlier this year. It took about 25+ miles to get it to act up but it would cut out for a while then all was good. It would not act up when I had it in the garage. It actually started a year ago. I thought I was fouling plugs as I was riding 2 up and not using as much wrist. I was able to catch it acting up about 2 blocks from my house and pulled a spark plug wire or 2 and was able to determine it was an ignition issue. I finally replaced the DYNA ignition and all is good in the hood. The unit was about 10 years old so it was and still is worth the cost. I could not justify the C5 system but I wish I could.

I understand the money issue. But when you consider that the C5 system comes with a special coil, spark plug wires, and an optical ignition that is super easy to setup. And electronic advance. If the cost is looked at considering what you get, it starts looking better. It IS the 21st century ignition system. Try it,...…..you will like it

Don't put it off too long because the Dyna S warranty is only good for 1 year.

Here's how to test it http://www.dynaonline.com/skins/downloa ... naSTSG.pdf

Cyborg, not trying to hijack the thread but what coils did you go with? VS4 or the MV version? For a 76 GL1000

I used the coils that came with the C5 kit. One coil pack, four sparkplug leads

Who sells the C5 system? I was planning on installing a Dyna but the C5 sounds good too.

Off‐ Run- Off handle bar switch is set to Run

https://ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5720

IMPORTANT!! Just noted this :oldies ^^^^ tutorial doesn't indicate the OFF RUN OFF switch has to be selected to the RUN position.
text located under the 6th photograph says only, "...turn ON ignition ." I reckon that could be interpreted as the keyswitch alone.

Now you know. ;) "kill switch" must be selected to RUN, as well.
