Can't go by that. A properly working vented cap will hiss when you remove it. Especially on a warm day after you've been riding and have used up most of the fuel.

It does make a hissing sound when I remove the gas cap, maybe that indicates my gas line clamps aren’t letting air in?
Thanks

When I turned the petcock to 'ON' nothing came out of the hose. Took off my gas tank cap, blew some compressed air into the hose, and suddenly fuel started pouring out.
How full was the tank when you tried that? The petcock is about half way up the tank so fuel won't flow out of it by gravity unless the fuel level is above where the petcock is mounted. BUT if you get the flow started (either by applying pressure to the tank or suction to the hose) and the end of the hose is below the fuel level the fuel will siphon out.

my wild guess was going to be if the tank isn't vented properly it could be creating a vacuum that is pulling the fuel back into the tank.
T he vent allows air into the tank, but not out. If its plugged a vacuum is created, and it gould keep fuel from entering the filter. (but I think you knew that)

I know I’m missing something simple, the bike has ran excellent for the last 9000 miles, still runs good but you can tell when it starts to get less gas than it likes.
Thanks

I have given up chasing this problem, it is be better since I replaced the petcock, put new hose clamps on the fuel lines.
Blown low pressure air thru the holes in the tank, reserve and main all looks fine, tried riding it without a real gas cap to eliminate the venting being the problem and no difference.
The motorcycle has never overheated or quit running, in fact it runs great.
Maybe my OCD is just running rampant....
All of the input and advice is appreciated from the group as always

If it isn't running any differently, maybe it isn't really hotter. I wonder if something happened to make the 7V regulator put out a slightly higher voltage - maybe some water got into the connector where the green wire plugs in and a bit of oxide formed? That might make the gauge read slightly higher....
Well.....It seems as if my gas cap is the problem. When I take the gas line off the pump & open the petcock it flows plenty until I put the gas cap on, then the gas flow all but stops!
Soaked the cap in vinegar for a few hours, can’t tell that made a difference.
Maybe I should drill a little hole in the gas cap?
As always thanks
